1. Experience matters: How much do they have? Think of it like hiring a lawyer for a major case in your life, would you trust someone with just two years of experience and a handful of cases, or someone with hundreds of cases spanning a decade? With over a decade of experience and more than 350 weddings photographed, I bring a depth of skill and calm confidence to every celebration. My experience and professionalism offer peace of mind, a seamless experience, and images that hold their value long after the day is over. Sticking to your budget matters, but so does understanding what you’re investing in. A photographer who has captured hundreds of weddings brings expertise, adaptability and the ability to handle anything the day might bring. You’re not just paying for 10 hours of photography; you’re investing in years of experience, 2 weeks of meticulous editing, high end equipment and with backups, time, care and advice in the lead up to the day and the assurance that your memories are in capable hands.
2. Personality: Do you vibe? Many couples underestimate just how much influence their photographer has over the flow and mood of their wedding. You’ll spend more time with your photographer than almost anyone else on your day. If the photographer brings the wrong energy, struggles with timekeeping, or isn’t skilled at directing and working with people, it can affect the entire day. My couples always comment on my calm, kind, fun, and adaptable nature. I know when to guide and when to step back, helping everyone feel relaxed creating authentic images. 3. Style: Do you want posed? candid? or both? My style blends candid documentary coverage with a beautiful editorial edge. Most of your day will unfold naturally, and I will only guide the moments that require it, such as group shots and portraits so your images do not feel contrived.
4. 35mm Film - is it high quality? Many people shoot film but there is a big difference in quality. If it's dark and has muddy faded shadows (underexposed) they likely do not know how to shoot professionally. Many also use point and shoot cameras which means just that, they point and shoot and let the camera do all the work which doesn't lead to accurate or quality results and you might as well purchase throw away cameras for your guests. I shoot fully manual which isn't for the faint of heart but it gives high quality and much more accurate results. Good film should be hard to distinguish against digital, unless you truly know film, where you appreciate the subtle glow, the delicate grain and the colours that act differently to digital.
5. How do they edit? will it date?: I have seen editing trends come and go over the last 10 years but I edit in a true-to-life timeless tones that stands the test of time. Think about the edit style, is it a current trend? if so it will date. Remember the sepia or dark and moody trend?
6. Would you prefer a male or female photographer? From my experience in the industry, and based on feedback from other suppliers and wedding planners and couples - brides and bridesmaids in particular - often feel more comfortable with a female photographer, and that comfort can translate into better, more natural photos. I believe this comes down to the nature of the job itself. Weddings are highly emotional, and the planning is often driven by the bride. Having a female photographer not only helps guests feel at ease, but it also allows the bride to form a stronger connection with the photographer, as they can be more attuned to their emotional journey. During intimate moments, such as getting ready or portrait sessions, brides often feel more relaxed and many female photographers also have experience assisting with practical aspects of the day, such as fastening dresses, adjusting veils, or touching up makeup when bridesmaids or family members need help. I for example have helped fasten many dresses where bridesmaids have struggled. Beyond capturing images, female photographers often bring a unique perspective, offering styling tips, dress guidance, and a keen eye for small details that can elevate the overall wedding experience. My brides often seek my advice on these elements, seeing me as more than a photographer, more like an extra bridesmaid or close friend.
7. Booking Limit: What is it? and is your wedding just another number? While many photographers take on 30+ weddings a year, I limit myself to just 15. This allows me to devote roughly three weeks to each couple (totalling about 45 weeks annually), giving every story the personal attention it deserves, with no rushed edits, delays in communication or a photographer so burnt out they have no creative energy left for your wedding. Trust me, as someone who used to shoot 30 weddings when I first started, it's a killer and absolutely affects performance and service. My balanced pace also gives me time for meticulous timeline planning, travel coordination, maintaining top-tier equipment, purchasing and processing film, thoughtfully culling and curating each gallery, and refining every image through careful editing. Fewer bookings mean more time, care, and intention poured into each couple’s experience.
8. Authenticity?: Honesty and integrity is a huge deal to me, it's at the core of who I am and my work and reviews showcase this.
9. Have You Viewed a Full Gallery? Always ask to see a full gallery. Websites and Instagram feeds are highly curated and can be deceiving, finding a few great images is easy, but delivering 700+ consistently edited photos that are beautiful, storytelling and authentic is a completely different skill.
As a photographer who has been through my own wedding, I deeply understand the sensitivities of the day, from family dynamics to the intimate moments of getting ready. You’ll feel completely comfortable in my presence as I capture every moment with care. Booking me means choosing quality, artistry, and a deeply personal experience, someone you’ll be genuinely happy to have by your side on the most important day of your life.

You truly have a special gift
Emma!! Oh my these photos are beyond spectacular. We just relived our whole wedding day.... Not only did you document our emotions throughout the day, but you captured the spirit and humanity of our family as well. That is something we will cherish more and more as time passes. Thank you so so much!
You deserve more than a photographer. You deserve someone who sees the story beneath the surface, the quiet moments, the wild joy, the in-between glances that say everything words can’t. I create authentic, story-driven images that are both visually stunning and deeply emotive, capturing the true energy and emotion of your day as it unfolds. I document weddings on digital, 35mm film, and Super 8, capturing modern stories in an honest, editorial, and documentary style. My work is rooted in emotion and authenticity, preserving the heart of your day in a timeless way that feels authentically you...
Your wedding day is too special to settle for anything less than exceptional. Photography is the one lasting keepsake of your celebration, an investment in memories, artistry, and trust. Choosing the wrong photographer can really impact on how your day is remembered. The last thing you want to do after the wedding is look back with regret.
